The Diamondbacks are making Paul Konerko a top priority this offseason, according to a pair of sources.
Konerko, a long-time member of the White Sox, will be a free agent after the World Series.
He hit .312 with 39 homers and 111 RBIs in 2010.
Uggla, Marlins Make Progress On Contract
The Marlins and second baseman Dan Uggla are making progress in talks on a new contract.
Florida may be willing to increase their initial three-year offer to include a fourth season.
Uggla reportedly wants a five-year, $50 million deal.
Agent Terry Bross wouldn't elaborate but said he was "hopeful" that Uggla would get the deal he wants from the Marlins.
Phillies Have 'Touched Base' With Werth
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. says the team has "touched base" with outfielder Jayson Werth.
Werth still seems prepared to hit the open market five days after the conclusion of the World Series.
"We've touched base," Amaro said, without offering specifics.
Twins Exercise Kubel's Option
The Twins have exercised Jason Kubel's $5.25 million club option for 2011 and declined the $5 million option for infielder Nick Punto.
Kubel hit .249 with 21 home runs and 92 RBIs for the Twins this season.
Sabathia Has Knee Surgery
Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia underwent surgery on Friday morning to correct a small meniscus tear in his right knee.
The procedure was performed by team physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad at New York-Presbyterian Hospital.
Sabathia will begin rehabilitation immediately and after three to six weeks be able to start normal preparations for spring training.
Ortiz 'Not Comfortable' With One-Year Deal
Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz says he's "not comfortable" with a one-year contract.
Boston has a one-year, $12.5 million option on Ortiz's contract for the 2011 season.
"I just want to cut out all the crap and go back to the guy I was before, a happy guy who doesn't have to be answering questions that have nothing to do with anything but controversy. I just want to be able to play baseball and have fun, like I used to," Ortiz told WEEI.com. "That's where I came back to not wanting just one year, because I know it's going to be just the same thing.
"As soon as you struggle for a week, it's going to be the same thing. People saying you are old, saying you have no bat speed anymore. People talking all kind of crap. It's hard to avoid that because it's all over the place. You're a regular human being just like everyone else. It's not like you're in a cage, locked up and you come to the field and that's it. It's not like we don't watch TV, listen to the radio, read the newspaper. We are all connected to that stuff, especially here."
Red Sox To Go 'Really Hard' After Crawford
The Red Sox are expected to go "really hard" after free-agent outfielder Carl Crawford this winter.
MLB analyst Peter Gammons discussed Boston's offseason with WEEI-AM on Thursday.
"There is no doubt in my mind that they are going to go really hard after Carl Crawford," said Gammons. "That will be a matchup with the Angels, and you know there are some puffs of smoke coming out of New York that suggest the Yankees might go after him, even though their primary need is pitching."
Cubs Could Welcome Kerry Wood Back
If their payroll permits, the Cubs could welcome back reliever Kerry Wood, according to a source.
The Yankees declined to pick up their 2011 option on Wood's contract earlier this week.
Cubs owner Tom Ricketts is on record saying the payroll for 2011 will drop slightly from its peak of $140 million in 2010.
Chicago drafted Wood with the fourth pick overall in 1995.
Jeter Unlikely To Be Courted By Tigers
